Power generation

Power plant

Vamp feeder and motor managers and feeder and machine protection relays are used in power generation to protect feeders, bus bar, generators, generator block transformers and power and distribution transformers.

The protection relays and feeder and motor protection managers have been developed especially for medium-size generators and transformers below 200 MW. Protection characteristics support definite time, IEC and IEEE inverse characteristics. In addition, Vamp feeder managers have programmable curves for applications where standard curves cannot be used. Protection features can also be extended with an optional RTD unit.

Vamp protection relays, feeder and motor managers are typically connected to the plant automation using native IEC 61850, Modbus TCP, Profibus DP and DeviceNet.

Vamp protection relays differ from feeder managers with respect to mechanical size and number of analogue inputs and digital input / output contacts. The protection relays are used as such for applications where local / remote control is not essential.

Arc flash protection for Vamp's feeder managers and protection relays is optional.

Switchgear protection can be combined with Vamp arc flash protection system. Being the technology leader, Vamp offers selective arc flash protection systems for every need. Both fibre and point sensor technologies are supported for arc flash detection. Arc flashes can be extinguished quickly by combined use of arc eliminators and arc flash protection systems.
