VAMP 321 arc flash protection introduced to the Malaysian market (5.8.2011)

VAMP 321 arc flash launch in Malaysia

Vamp's latest arc flash protection system, the Vamp 321 which incorporates the SCADA communication facility - was introduced to the Malaysian market in July at the Asean Elenex 2011 exhibition in Kuala Lumpur. Another important milestone in connection with the exhibition was the inauguration of Vamp's new local representative, VSD Automation Sdn Bhd. The festivities around these two releases were honoured by the presence of two prestigious guests, Mr. Y.B. Dato' Sri Peter Chin Fah Kui, Minister of Energy, Green Technology and Water and Mr. Hj. Hussin Othman, Vice President - Distribution, Tenaga Nasional Berhad, TNB.

TNB Distribution has used Vamp's arc protection systems and feeder protection relays in various 11 kV and 33 kV switchgears since 2004.

In arc flash protection, a communication interface will be increasingly required in Malaysia, especially by TNB Transmission and TNB Distribution for their double busbar substations. As the forerunner in applying various communication protocols to arc protection systems Vamp has the capability to adapt its offering according to customer requirements and will submit a Vamp 321 to TNB Transmission for approval during 2011.

Guests and hosts at the VSD booth. In front from the left, Mr. Hj Hussin Othman, Vice President, TNB Distribution; Mr. Y.B. Dato' Sri Peter Chin Fah Kui, Minister of Energy, Green Technology and Water; and Mr. Syed Mashor Shahabuddin, Executive Chairman, VSD Automation. Behind them are on the left Mr. Ganasan Arumugam, Sales Director, VSD Automation and on the right Mr. Khairul Anuar, Technical Support Engineer, VSD Automation.

RSTP dual port 100 Mbps Ethernet interface in VAMP relays (09.05.2011)

Spanning Tree Protocol (STP) is a link layer network protocol that prevents bridge loops and flooding in local networks with redundant connections. To ensure a loop-free topology RSTP disables some connections leaving single active path between any two devices. Each of these disabled connections can be used as a backup path in case of active connection failure. The former STP protocol has been superseded by RSTP - Rapid Spanning Tree Protocol, which is able to respond to topology changes faster than STP >> Read more about RSTP dual port 100 Mbps Ethernet interface in VAMP relays

Monitoring and control of secondary substations enhances distribution network management (02.05.2011)

Distribution network protection, monitoring and control have traditionally focused on primary substation automation while less attention has been paid to intelligent management of secondary substations. A unique concept developed by a group of leading Finnish hardware and software suppliers now offers a cost-efficient and reliable management solution for both new and existing secondary substations. >> Read more from Nordicum Energy & PulPaper 3/2011

Virtual current and voltage measurement and disturbance recorder injection is made available in latest Vamp relays (19.04.2011)

Virtual measurement of Vamp relays is possible with the v.10.74 software or a later version. Virtual measurement makes it possible to inject virtual current and voltage with 2nd, 3rd, and 5th harmonic content into the relay, thus allowing simple testing without a secondary testing device. It is an ideal tool for testing the relay-Scada communication interface and events. Vampset 2.2.73 setting tool or more recent version is required for this feature. >> Read more about virtual measurement in Vamp relays

Vamp patents a method for detecting intermittent earth faults (17.02.2011)

Vamp Oy has obtained a patent for a new, cost-effective method for detecting earth faults in medium-voltage networks. The method enables the selective identification of intermittent transient earth faults as part of the normal process of network protection and control. Simplicity and cost-effectiveness are the advantage; apart from normal protection relays, neither a high sampling frequency nor special identification equipment is required. >> Read more.
